Search Engine Optimization for Beginners

Search Engine Optimization or SEO has now become inevitable for the success of an online business. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is simply the process of ranking your business website high among the search results of top search engines such as Google, Yahoo, AltaVista, and MSN, for a search engine for a given keyword or key phrase, thereby driving maximum number of customers to your websites. A plethora of firms now engaged in providing SEO related services. However, these service providers do not render anything special that you can do it yourself. Discussed further in this article are regarding search engine optimisation steps that are informative as well as beneficial for beginners as well as for those interested in do it yourself marketing.

Foremost among the steps in search engine optimization is keyword research, ie, to prepare a list of keyword or keyphrases which are mostly commonly used by visitors to find your product or service. Another important step in connection with SEO-related works is preparation of quality as well as fresh content. Through writing of pertinent content and updating it with informative contents, your website could attract a large number of visitors. Further, via quality content, search engine robots also frequent your website. Steps in connection with search engine optimization also include website redevelopment, in which every aspect of a website, such as, Meta tags, alt tags, architecture, and graphic text, would be modified in order to make it spider friendly as well as to ethically meet the requirements of keyword relevancy.

Link development is also an important step in search engine optimization. Quality links can be generated through a spectrum of means such as one way link exchange, reciprocal link exchanges, and free directory submissions.

On completion of all of these aforesaid steps, the next step is to submit your website to some of the leading search engines as well as directories such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, AltaVista, AOL, Netscape, Lycos, and DMOZ. After submission, it is important to regularly track your website in order to ensure whether optimization really works effectively.

Following the above mentioned steps and tips not only fetch your website high ranking but also to enhance your online business sales.

What You Need To Know About Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs are excellent vehicles to make a sizable income monthly, provided you have subscribed for the right affiliate programs and you have a website that attracts a lot of traffic day in and day out. The latter aspect can be tackled with some Google tips for search engine optimization acts to make it search engine friendly, and thereby increasing its page rankings. But, when it comes to choosing a suitable affiliate program, some serious behind the scene work has to be done for not all affiliate programs may pay handsomely.

Regarding finding the best affiliate programs available at present, go to forums and blogs where such aspects are discussed by likeminded people. It is always better to seek the advice of those who have had subscribed for affiliate programs and making/not making money already. They could tell you which affiliate program is better and which one is not. Remember, not all affiliate programs pay their affiliate partners reasonably.

However, don’t go by the percentage of commissions offered by an affiliate program alone for at the end of the day what translates to money is the amount of sales you do through your site or the conversion rate and nothing else. For example, being an affiliate partner to a site marketing $100 products (which is in high demand) and pays 30% commission is far better than another product that pays 75% commission but has a far lesser market share/value. Apply your common sense to full use to assess the situation.

It is also crucial to understand how referrals from your site are tracked by the affiliate sponsor. As mentioned above, since payments are directly linked to conversion rates, it is safe to have a program that offers 2-3 months for visitors to complete the deal after them clicking the affiliate link. Shorter the tracking period, lesser are your chances to earn commissions.

Finally, read and understand the terms/conditions governing a given affiliate program. Some affiliate merchants include sneaky clauses in the terms and conditions that could technically restrict the affiliate partner’s chances of earning commissions. Also, keep an eye on the payment terms mentioned in the contract. Some say they’ll pay the money once in two months, while some others send the money only if the total crosses $100. Avoid both types. Realize that there are affiliate programs out there that automatically send you the money once a sale is made. Always go for such sure shot affiliate networks.

Business Slogans and Taglines

The Right Slogan is Key to Brand Building Success

When it comes to the building blocks of brand strategy, a good business slogan or tagline ranks high in importance.

The tagline is a short phrase created to ride shotgun with the logo. Its purpose is to communicate the essence, uniqueness, or benefits of the business or product. The best slogans and taglines are catchy enough both to deliver a message and help customers remember the company name.

If it sounds a little complicated, it’s not. In fact the simplicity of the tagline is the key to its effectiveness, but it’s also what makes it such a critical part of the business’s brand development and marketing strategy. Taglines need to say something important enough about the company or product that they are worth repeating over and over. Getting to that “just right” phrase, however, can be a difficult process.

Think about the importance in brand awareness of slogans like these: “It’s finger lickin’ good”, “Because I’m worth it”, and “A diamond is forever.” KFC, L’Oreal and DeBeers have all benefited from the name recognition and “reason to buy” generated by these simple four-word slogans. These three taglines have all been used for years. Staying power is key to a good tagline or slogan.

When done right, a tagline reaches out to the target and makes them want the benefit your product offers: delicious fried chicken, a feeling of having been pampered, or a marriage good enough to last a lifetime (since your diamond will).

Another classic example is Avis Rent A Car and it’s “We Try Harder” slogan. You want convenience, reliability, and a fair price when you rent a car. The major car rental companies all provide those benefits. Avis gives customers a reason to want to associate with them because they try harder. Brilliant.

Since taglines and slogans are meant to be simple, why do so many companies fail at coming up with the right one?

One big reason is they often confuse their mission statement with their tagline. Mission statements are created to focus internal resources. Taglines are for external audiences and customers. Taglines communicate what the product or service can do for customers, not companies.

The bottom line is that taglines and slogans are a key component of any brand strategy. They are not easy to come by, but once you find the perfect one, stick with it and use it everywhere you use your logo.

Favicon - Favourites Icon

A Favicon is a shortening phrase for Favourites Icon, it is an icon that’s used to represent a website or webpage. You can create these icons easily and many of the new browsers make use of these. When the favicon was first introduced it would show a little icon that the website owner designed in the persons bookmarks. It would only show up in their bookmarks and know where else. With recent browsers that have come out for IE and FireFox the capabilities of the Favicons have grown tremendously. You can now see the favicon making its way all over the place, I have come up with a list of where this icon now appears in most FireFox and IE browsers.

1. In your favourites list
2. In the URL address bar – Appears before http://
3. Desktop – You can drag the icon to your desktop to create a shortcut
4. Task bar
5. Link bar

All of these locations will have the favicon icon viewable. Favicons must be made and saved into a favicon.ico file extension. If you don’t save it this way then your icon will not work at all, and you will have to change it. So make sure the extension is right. The favicon should be 16×16 pixels with 16 colours in it. There are some programs you can use online that will create favicon’s for you.

Favicon’s aren’t a proven science by any means yet and they still can’t even be viewed by all browsers. They use to help website owners in finding out how many people bookmarked their site, now that the favicon appears in so many different locations it is useless for any type of information gathering. It is now used as a means to distinguish your website and make it unique from all the others. All of the major traffic websites have these favicons for example MSN, Yahoo, and Gmail. All of them have a very unique feel to them and it helps people understand where they have been before. It’s easy to recognize these icons once you have seen them enough times, maybe that’s why they are starting to appear everywhere.

If you’re interested in making your own favicon.ico file then you can on the internet easily at many different websites. It doesn’t cost anything to make these at the sites it’s all completely free, and once you have made one save it to your computer so you can use it for your own website. If you don’t know how to upload the favicon.ico file to your website I’m going to tell you how quickly. You will want to upload your file into the root directory, in the index.html page. That’s all you have to do in order to have a working favicon, although if you don’t see it pop-up on your site right away don’t panic as it can take a few days to appear and sometimes vanishes for know reason. Now when people are visiting your site and viewing their favourites, they will be able to see your favicon instead of a default image. This can be a great technique for trying to brand yourself, make your icon stick out from the rest and be unique. You will want to make the favicon very stylish so that people will like it, you won’t want to get an unmemorable icon as then it’s just making a worse name for your site then the default image would. Since these favicons are completely free I would suggest anyone with a website to make there own and upload it to their website. It can either make a killer impression or terrible impression, let’s hope it wins you more customers, and clients. If you’re interested in making your own favicon then you can get some more information at favicon.com
